The Enduring Charm of a Historic Heart
La Candelaria is a neighborhood that consistently draws me in. Every time I embark on a tour here, I discover something new. The difference is also profoundly shaped by the time of day, the day of the week, and even the weather. The district always appears different to me when the sun shines compared to when it rains. It transforms whether I’m walking its solitary cobblestone streets in the morning or experiencing the vibrant life on a Sunday, feeling as though all of Bogotá is out and about.
This ancient part of the city also stands in stark contrast to Bogotá’s modern skyline, which I can glimpse from almost anywhere. The brightly colored houses, which glow with a special light under the sun, the captivating graffiti, and the lively street life with its numerous restaurants, cafés, hotels, and theaters, all exert a powerful fascination over me. There’s simply no resting place for the eye; every detail beckons. And I am very certain that I will find my way back to La Candelaria every single time I visit Bogotá.
