It’s a sunny day in Bogota. The best conditions for a graffiti tour. I have seen a lot of graffiti on various taxi rides near the Hotel Tequendama, which I finally want to photograph with my smartphone today.
Our tour starts at the hotel via Carrera 13. As in the last few days, it is very quiet on the streets. There are only a few people on the road. We first pass some fallow land, which doesn’t give me a good feeling of security. We turn off in the direction of Avenida Caracas. This is also where the red light milieu borders. I want to take a picture of a particular house, but on the other side of the street people spot me and gesticulate wildly in my direction. Not a good place, it’s better to move on.
A minute later, a motorbike patrol stops next to us. Two nice policemen give us the ultimate warning that it is not a good idea to take pictures in this area and if we actually want to go into the milieu district, no one guarantees our safety anymore. Not even the police.
This was very understandable, we continue briskly to Avenida el Dorado. Opposite the Cementario Central there are many beautiful graffiti. I take a lot of pictures and my companion has to exercise patience.
We continue along the street to Parque el Renacimiento. The graffiti art is impressive. That is what distinguishes this city. Via Calles 32, we move slowly back towards the Hotel Tequendama. And in every side street there is something to discover. It’s a paradise for tree lovers.
On the way back, I notice again this stark contrast in the city’s architecture. The old buildings are towered over by modern office skyscrapers and almost crushed. As dusk begins to fall, we enjoy the fantastic view over the city.
