Editorial Illustration: The Creative Process

Illustration is storytelling through images. Using digital watercolor and a pastel palette, I bring narratives to life, blending textures and illustrated details. "Leben all inclusive" was an emotional journey—each step, from concept to layout, a creative adventure.

Editorial Illustration

Everyone has a story to tell, and throughout our lives, we find different ways to express our adventures. For me, the best way is through art, and what better way than to translate other people’s stories into images, sounds, and videos. For now, we’ll focus on images.

When a new project comes up, the preliminary process involves listening closely to the project’s progress and objectives, letting it breathe for a while, while I analyze the design direction. Illustration has so many varied aspects that choosing the right one is always an adventure. I like to play with colors and textures to create depth in the scene, and this is where the use of different digital tools comes into play. Each and every one contributes something different to the developing art.

Leben all inclusive was a very emotional exercise. In this book, three very powerful characters appear: Mina, Paula, and Nelly, who tell us stories that are as inspiring as they are unique. The visual development was based on a pastel color palette, with a strong romantic influence, allowing the reader to find a special connection with each story. The different emotions leap through the letters, and the key is to translate them into an illustration that enriches and accompanies the narrative.

The technique is 100% digital watercolor and seeks to create an atmosphere of reverie and narrative adventure. I decided to include loose elements related to each story to accompany the editorial design. Additionally, I incorporate a mix of photographs with illustrated details, allowing the narrative to be intertwined with everyday life.

The cover design is very unique; here, the concept is based on schooling, a common theme for the girls, and allows for a connection with the narrative content.

The layout is perhaps the most complex process, at least for me. Here, it requires patience to properly align the text with the illustrations. Added to this is the fact that the language is completely new to me (German). Once the changes are approved, the preview is defined, and print production begins.

Each project allows me to explore new challenges and acquire different creative skills. Thank you for this artistic journey.

We did it!!!
